Photography

The photos here were taken on an old Canon PowerShot A520 during the pandemic as an artistic exploration of systems of memory.

Jackson, WY 2021 … family reunion, early-morning game drive, Jenny Lake, Phelps Lake, Sheep Mtn, Grand Teton Nat’l Park. The colors of this landscape are so different from the East coast—I’m especially taken by the blues, purples, and dusty greens. Wildfires in California and Oregon made for some beautiful sunsets, but in the daytime the smoke cast haze over everything.

Stockbridge, MA, 2020 … art-in-residence, hiking, tending my friend’s greenhouse, staying up all night to watch the sun rise over the pine trees, wintering somewhere new, starting many books that I didn’t finish, learning how to capture the light of different days.

Amherst, MA, 2020 … photos of the woods behind the house I quarantined in. I spent hours and hours outside, even in the bitter cold, trying to find some beautiful things in that long, surreal twilight of lockdown. Though most of my memories then are of a sore, tightly contained fragility in my mind and body, I also have immense gratitude for the time I had to wander through these woods and watch/feel the turning of the seasons.
